We’re thrilled to share that Code/Art’s CEO & Founder, Amy Renshaw, has been awarded the 2022 Thelma Gibson Award, in the category of Technology, for her work at Code/Art! The award highlights Amy’s drive to increase gender equity in tech by increasing female representation in computer science. In the 6 years since Code/Art was founded, we have reached over 7,000 South Florida girls with weekly Code/Art Clubs that use an accredited art-based coding curriculum, as well as through our national all-girls coding competitions.
The Women’s Chamber of Commerce established the Thelma Gibson Award to honor its founder and celebrate women that have excelled in promoting leadership, excellence, and business development among corporate and professional women. This year’s theme was the “Unsinkable” Women of Miami. This theme was inspired by Molly Brown, an American human-rights activist, philanthropist, and actress, who survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Miami is filled with a powerful and dynamic group of women empowering the next generation of women to be “unsinkable” and pursue their dreams.

Miami-Dade County’s first Women’s Chamber of Commerce was established in 1984 by Mrs. Thelma Gibson with the belief that business women of all races and nationalities should have a forum where they could gain momentum, express their thoughts, and come together as one voice – to be heard by all throughout the County.
