“My self-portrait for the Code/Art’s CodeYourSelfâ„¢ competition was my first time coding. Code/Art has been part of my computer science journey ever since. Participating in the club made me realize that computer science was fun and doable as long as one is dedicated and focused on their learning. Code/Art events have encouraged me to learn and be even more curious about computer science & technology in general. They also gave me countless opportunities to meet people who inspire me and whom I can look up to. I will be forever grateful to have been part of such an amazing community!”

“Code/Art helped me find my hidden passion for computer science; it let me use technical skills and combine them with business skills in order to pitch a website with my team in the ChangeMaker Challenge. Additionally, my participation in the Programs Intern year-long position helped me ensure that I wanted to study both Business and Computer Science. These experiences at Code/Art made my application to WashU, QuestBridge Match, Gates Scholarship, and Amazon Future Engineer stronger, helping me earn these awards.”

“Code/Art has impacted my future academic endeavors by inspiring me to pursue a degree in STEM. It gave me the opportunity to develop skills to approach math from other angles. Also, while volunteering as a Code/Art Instructor for 4 years, I grew as a leader and learned to solve problems creatively. Because I chose to attend UM, I plan to continue teaching for Code/Art and contributing to the growth of girls in STEM in the community where I live.”
