Code Art/Fest 2023 Recap

On March 11th, 2023, Code/Art hosted its 8th annual Code/Art Fest – a gathering that celebrates the achievements of young female coders while raising awareness of the opportunities in computing fields. Every year, Code/Art Fest brings together technologists, artists, and creatives to participate in tech workshops, keynote talks, an interactive STEM expo, and a one-of-a-kind digital art exhibit. 

Code/Art Fest Impact: 

  • 357 total attendees
  • 38 Teachers in the educator track
  • 12 exhibitor organizations
  • 27 speakers, live judges, and workshop leads
  • 37 volunteers
  • 331 YouTube Live Views 

​​This year, we kicked off our morning with hands-on workshops for both students and teachers.

Our first main stage event was a dynamic fireside chat with Emily Reid from AI4ALL interviewed by Code/Art high school students, Valentina Nicolini and Sahana Sethuraman. Other main stage sessions included the Women in Art & Tech Panel as well as our first all-Spanish activity: a Tech es Para Todos speaker panel. 

Attendees were able to experience virtual reality installations, interactive installations, and other technology-driven artworks within our expo space. 

Our high school students competed in our annual ChangeMaker Challenge where they pitched their ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win the 5,000 grand prize. 

We closed our event with a keynote talk by Ari Melenciano that focused on her career story and favorite innovative projects followed by the announcement of the 2023 Code/Art competition winners and finalists for our 3 competitions: CodeYourSelf, Animated Art, and ChangeMaker! 

2023 Competition Highlights: 

  • Over 700 entries for all 3 categories
  • 96 participating schools (nationally)
  • 59 participating teachers (nationally)
  • 23 participating states
