CITY Furniture and Code/Art are teaming up this fall to launch the Code For A Cure Poster Contest, a one-of-a-kind student coding competition that combines art, technology, and Breast Cancer Awareness. Students in grades 3–12 will use code to design digital posters that inspire hope, educate the community, and share personal stories connected to the fight against breast cancer.
The Legacy of the Pink Pumpkins
The contest is inspired by the story of Doreen Koenig, mother of CITY Furniture CEO Andrew Koenig. Known for her generosity and philanthropy, Doreen became a passionate advocate for ending breast cancer long before her own diagnosis in 2015.
During her final year, she launched the Pink Pumpkins Project—distributing thousands of pink pumpkin buckets during Halloween as a way to fill the community with symbols of strength and hope. Today, her vision continues through CITY Furniture’s annual breast cancer initiatives, and this collaboration with Code/Art honors her legacy.
About the Code For A Cure Poster Contest
Students (grades 3–12) coded original digital posters that:
- Raised awareness about breast cancer in their community, or
- Shared a personal story or reflection about how breast cancer has impacted their lives or families.
Every submission will be showcased at CITY Furniture’s Tamarac showroom throughout October 2025 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A Collaboration of Community, Tech, and Hope
With this contest, CITY Furniture and Code/Art are empowering students to use coding + art to inspire change. By raising awareness through digital posters, participants honor the fight against breast cancer and celebrate the resilience of survivors, families, and communities.
