Dec 15, 2022 | All News

Happy Computer Science Education (CSEd) Week [Dec. 5 to Dec. 11, 2022]! Every year, we partner with school teachers to encourage students to participate in an Hour of Code activity or CS themed event. This year, we had the pleasure of visiting a few Miami-Dade County schools as well as co-host a CSEd Celebration at Miami Dade College.

To kick off the week, we visited Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School’s Code/Art themed showcase facilitated by CS (and Code/Art trained) teacher, Ms. Vo! Watch below to see their showcase featuring all the coded self portraits made by female high school students.

Continuing with our celebrations, we partnered with PPG to host a tech talk with a group of middle school students at Frances S. Tucker K-8 Academy. PPG, a long time partner of Code/Art, spoke with students about the latest innovations and career opportunities in tech. We thank PPG for taking the time to host this visit and for supporting our STEM programs for Miami-Dade County teachers.

We ended the week by presenting and exhibiting at CSTA Miami’s CSEd week celebration in parnership with CSforALL, CSTA, Microsoft Teals, Miami Ed Tech and Riders Robotics. Code/Art team member, Lisa Hauser, led our new ‘Art of Coding Animations’ PD to a group of South Florida teachers!

What a week! Thank you to our sponsors, community partners, and the amazing teachers that completed our Hour of Code lesson. It’s always a pleasure seeing the artistic masterpieces that students create and the impact of computer science education in the classroom and beyond!
