About Code/Art

Code/Art is a non-profit whose mission is to increase the number of girls studying computer science by delighting and inspiring them with the creative possibilities of computer programming. We strive to put young women, particularly young women from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, on track for future tech careers by providing welcoming early coding programs that focus on art, creativity and social good.

Position Description

Code/Art has openings for motivated CS students and grads to teach coding lessons in our weekly Code/Art Clubs for Girls! These clubs run from mid-September to mid May. As a Co-Lead/TA, you will help lead a Code/Art Club for Girls (grades 3-5 & 6-8), which means ensuring the students are understanding the lesson, assisting with attendance, and helping to create a safe space for our coders.

Depending on the club’s level, you will guide coders through lessons in Scratch, JavaScript, Python, Mobile Apps, HTML/CSS, and more. You will be paired with another Code/Art Co-Lead. In addition to the requirements listed below, you will communicate regularly with parents and Code/Art’s Programs Manager, typically via email and/or through a Whatsapp group chat, as well as attend additional paid training sessions throughout the school year.

Requirements

Attend an initial training session.
Review the appropriate lesson before each session.
Complete weekly report survey after each session.
Communicate any questions or concerns to Code/Art’s Programs Manager.
Must pass a background check.

Qualifications

Majoring or minoring in Computer Science or a related field
Experience coding in Scratch and JavaScript, or a willingness and ability to quickly learn
Experience working with students in grades 3-12 is a plus

Instructors work as independent contractors. Rate is $20/hour for virtual positions.

A typical instructor works 25-40 hours per semester. Additional teaching opportunities with Code/Art’s Code/Art Clubs & events may be available for those wanting more hours.
