Congratulations to our 30 phenomenal #include Fellows for 2016!

Our #include Fellows have done some truly amazing things. They have pushed for computer science curricula in their schools, hosted hackathons, and reached students from Miami all the way to Thailand. Their wide-ranging and broad-reaching initiatives have inspired passion in thousands of elementary, middle, and high school students for coding, robotics, biotechnology, digital art, and more.

Maria Mejia

Maria Mejia was born in Medellin, Colombia; and raised in Miami, Florida. She is currently a senior in iPreparatory Academy. Maria first realized her passion for CS when she joined the Girls Who Code (GWC) summer immersion program after a recommendation from her math teacher. Ever since, Maria has worked to inspire more girls to join the male-dominated field of CS. Her evident passion led her school to provide AP CS classes and allowed her to start a GWC club at her school.

Maria combined her talent in CS and her interest in art to create Code | Art | Miami, a digital art symposium and competition that aims to inspire girls to code. During the event, Maria and her team sold auction items and custom-made art pieces. They raised over $7,000 to fund a scholarship for a young woman to attend Miami Dade College’s new animation and gaming complex.
