This summer, we completed the second year of our Miami STEM From Dance Camp, where girls explored coding, choreography, and creativity—all in one fun-filled 4-week experience!
Why a STEM From Dance Camp?
The STEM From Dance Camp is a unique summer program that combines computer science education with dance and creative expression. Over the course of four weeks, girls learned to:
- Code their own music tracks
- Code animated backdrops
- Choreograph original dance routines
- Collaborate in teams to costume design and produce a final showcase event
This camp isn’t just about learning to code—it’s about showing girls that STEM is creative, collaborative, and fun. By pairing technology with performance, students see real-world applications of coding while expressing themselves through movement. It’s a powerful way to build confidence and interest in STEM careers, especially for young girls who otherwise would not have access to such programming.
Week-by-Week Highlights
Week 1: Exploring Code + Career Trajectories
Campers kicked off the program by getting to know each other, diving into the basics of music programming, and experimenting with creative coding tools. They also met inspiring guest speakers who shared their journeys in STEM and the arts.

Week 2-3: Teamwork + Technical Skills
Students broke into small groups to start building their showcase projects. They coded their music tracks, brainstormed choreography, and began designing their animated visuals and team logos. Throughout these weeks, they practiced problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation—core skills in both tech and dance!

Week 4: Showcase Ready!
The final week was all about rehearsals, refining code, and putting the finishing touches on each group’s performance. The program culminated in a fun, student-produced showcase where each team presented their original routine, performed to music they coded themselves with custom visuals and outfits.
