Tech es Para Todos! All Spanish Event in Homestead, FL

Oct 21, 2022 | All News, Uncategorized

And that’s a wrap on our 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month; “Tech es Para Todos!” event! For this one-of-kind event, we partnered with the South Florida tech ed community to bring programming and resources to students and parents from Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Title 1 Migrant Education Program in Homestead, FL. This was the first project executed by the CSforAll Miami Accelerator Cohort which consists of Code/Art, MiamiEdTech, Microsoft Teals, CSTA Miami and Riders with the goal to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in CS education in the community of Miami. With this mission in mind, we put together “Tech es Para Todos!”. Often times, ESL students are left out of STEAM programming simply because of the language barrier so our goal was to help tackle this by offering an all Spanish event to help get their foot in the door and inspire students to explore opportunities in tech.

Students and parents had the opportunity to hear from our amazing panel of speakers, Alex B. Pompei (Global Partners Solutions, Microsoft), Juan Bernal (Engineer, Microsoft), and Naxis Prado (Engineer, Accenture) about their journey in tech. We also had the chance to lead our first Spanish Coded Abstract Art workshop made possible by team member, Lisa Hauser.

Big thank you to our sponsors the Homestead Cybrarium, Comcast, and Miami Connected for helping make this event possible! We hope this is only the first of many all-Spanish events that we’ll execute here in South Florida.
